Dr. James (Jim) Forester earned his Associate Degree from Oxford College in 1975, his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Emory University in 1977, and his D.D.S. from Emory in 1981.
For over thirty years he has provided state of the art cosmetic and restorative dental care in the Atlanta area, and has practiced in Johns Creek, GA since 1997.
A self-professed Continuing Education junkie, he continually expands his education and has been fortunate to learn from some of the best clinical dentists around the world. He has completed intensive coursework at the Pankey Institute and the Dawson Academy in Florida, and most recently, the Kois Center in Seattle, one of the country's leading institutions of advanced dental training. Currently he serves the Kois Center as a Mentor, helping other dentists on topics such as occlusion, dental esthetics and rehabilitation, dental implants, and crown and bridge dentistry.
He has been happily married to Jenny since 1982. Jenny is a high school special education teacher. They have 3 grown children.
He maintains memberships in the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, the American Equilibration Society, the Pankey Institute, the Kois Center, and has participated in multiple mission trips to Guatemala and volunteered at the Good Samaritan Clinic.

Dr. George Childress is a native of Roanoke, Alabama. He is a graduate of Auburn University (B.S. 1986) and of the University of Alabama (Birmingham) School of Dentistry (DMD 1991). He is a member of the American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Society of Preservation of Oral Health, Academy of Implant Dentistry and an alumnus of the LD Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Study. Dr. Childress is married to the former Mary Lynn Page of LaGrange and they have four children, Allison, Caroline, Carson and Drake
Dr. Susan G. Rifkin, is a native of Syracuse, New York. A graduate of the SUNY at Buffalo in 1978 with a BS in Economics, she continued her dental education at SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, and
received her DDS in 1982. While an undergraduate in Buffalo, Dr. Rifkin participated in research at the dental school, and was published in JADA in 1978 on the Effects of electromyography on the TMJ.
Upon graduation, Dr. Rifkin relocated to Richmond, Virginia to begin her career as an associate professor at the Medical College of Virginia teaching dental anatomy to first year dental students and practicing general dentistry in several private practices. Shortly after, she was offered an opportunity to associate with Dr. Alan M. Kuehn in Atlanta, Ga., who she practiced with for 18 years prior to his retirement.
Dr. Rifkin has been practicing for 35 years, treating families in restorative, cosmetic and implant dentistry. She is actively involved in continuing education. After completing the Maxi Course in Implant Dentistry in 2012, she continues to be an active member of ADIS (Advanced Dental Implant Studies) right here in Atlanta.
Her affiliations include; the ADA, GDA, Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry,
American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Academy of Osseointegration, Hinman Dental Association, and a board member of the local chapter and International Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity.
Dr. Susan has been married to her husband David for 30 years. He is a 7th grade language arts teacher at Davis Academy. They have two children, Zachary, 28, is also a graduate of SUNY School of Dental Medicine and is currently completing a GPR residency in Manhattan at Bellevue hospital. He will soon join his Mom in practice. Dani, 26, is a sales associate at ADP in Alpharetta.
Dr. Rifkin looks forward to participating on the local board and hopes to create more relationships with her peers and to aid in the continued success of the GACD.
Dr.Hugh Flax is internationally known for his leadership in cosmetic dentistry. A Past President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, he has lectured and authored in Europe, Japan, Canada, and the United States on lasers, smile design, and advance restorative techniques to enhance the skills of dental teams in making their care world class for their patients.
Hugh D. Flax received his DDS degree from Emory University in 1983 following undergraduate Phi Beta Kappa honors. While doing a residency he did Posterior Composites research at LSU Dental School in 1984-1985. He has been a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry since 1994 and became Accredited in 1997. He was President of the Atlanta Chapter of the AACD (1996-1998) and founded the Georgia Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in 2007. Dr. Flax served for two years as Co-Chair of the Conference Advisory Committee for 2003 AACD Scientific Session in Orlando. He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry and Practical Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry. He has been the Chairperson of the AACD Private Education Advisory Council, the 2008 AACD Meeting, the 2010 AACD European Meeting, and was a member of the AACD Board of Directors for over 8 years. Outside of the AACD, Dr. Flax is a member of the ADA, AGD, ALD, AAID, ICOI, Catapult Elite, and the L.D. Pankey Alumni Association. He is also a certified Fellow with World Clinical Laser Institute. Lastly, he is a Fellow of both the International Academy of Dentofacial Therapeutics and ICOI. He recently completed the GHSU AAID Maxicourse.
Dr. Flax practices full time in Atlanta, Georgia focusing on functional-appearance related conditions and advanced laser dentistry as well as writing and lecturing on how to help others do the same for their own practices—including a full chapter in Dental Clinics of North America (Spring, 2011). For 4 years in a row, his website has been rated one of the best by Dental Economics magazine. In 2003, he was WSB-TV.com’s expert on Cosmetic Dentistry as well as appearing on FOX News demonstrating the miraculous benefits of laser dentistry. He has been the expert dentist on the “Meet the Products” television show and H2O Magazine. Lastly, he and his practice have been featured in many women’s magazines such as Cosmo, Allure, and Good Housekeeping as well as The Wall Street Journal, Dear Doctor, and Productive Dentist Magazine (cover story), The Atlanta Business Chronicle, Jezebel, Atlanta Magazine, In Style, and New Beauty magazine.
A native of Atlanta, Dr. Awbrey's dental career actually began it's start as a young child, where he became inspired to become an orthopedic surgeon through several childhood injuries. He completed his prerequisites for admission into medical school at Auburn University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry graduating Summa Cum Laude. Also, while attending Auburn, he was a member of the Varsity Track Team, two-time SEC Decathlon Champion and selected in 1985 as an NCAA All-American and Male Scholarship Athlete of the year for academic and athletic excellence. He began his passion for medicine in 1985 after entering UAB Medical School, but after attending his first year he felt his true calling was dentistry. He grew up watching his father practice pediatric dentistry in the Dunwoody, Roswell and Alpharetta area and through his father’s inspiration and outstanding professional example, he set himself on a path to become an orthodontist. He entered dental school in the fall of 1986 at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry and received his doctorate degree after completing four years of training in 1990 receiving the Alpha Omega Award for graduating Valedictorian in his class. After graduation, he entered his orthodontic residency at the LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans and received his specialty degree in 1992. He has always striven to be the very best he could at whatever he has chosen to accomplish and he brings the same to his specialty as an orthodontist and his patients. He has completed the rigorous study and examination required to become certified by the American Board of Orthodontics in 2001 as a diplomate. Dr. Awbrey has been in practice for 23 years in Alpharetta Georgia.
He has always been a perpetual student and has a passion to continually learn, placing the highest priority on staying current and up-to-date with the latest trends, techniques and technological advancements in the ever-evolving field of orthodontics. Attending continuing education courses each year is essential to staying at the forefront of his specialty so he can provide the best care for his patients. He is active in the American Association of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, Southern Association of Orthodontics, Georgia Association of Orthodontics, The Hinman Dental Society, Seattle Study Club of Atlanta, Spear Group of Atlanta, Kois Atlanta Study Club and a current board member of the Georgia Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He has completed coursework at the Kois Center in Seattle, one of the country's leading institutions of advanced dental training.
His practice has always felt a deep commitment to the youth of our community and has always been a proud sponsor of many local, middle and high school sport’s programs. They are currently a partner in education for Cogburn Elementary and Hopewell Middle Schools and a major contributor to the athletic programs at Cambridge High School. They are also involved with Smiles Change Lives where they provide orthodontic care for needy patients free of charge.
When he is not at work he is enjoying his family, his friends, life and everything in between. His hobbies are his practice and the field of orthodontics.
Dr Sims is a native of Michigan where he received a degree in dental technology from Ferris State University in 1979. After obtaining his dental tech degree that he considers invaluable, Dr. Sims furthered his education at the University Of Detroit School Of Dentistry completing a DDS degree in 1984.
He practiced in Dearborn Michigan for 6 months when he was introduced to the beautiful city of Atlanta and decided to move. He has practiced in the Smyrna-Vinings area since 1985 maintaining a comprehensive restorative practice.
Continuing education has been a staple for Dr. Sims since 1985 studying with Drs. Dawson, Spear, Kois, Pride, Shuster, Goldstein, Garber, Salama, Garg, Chiche, Misch, Fahl, and many more. He is a member of the American Dental, Georgia Dental Associations, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, The Leading Physicians of the World, and Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.
Along with his continuing education, Dr. Sims has traveled to Nicaragua, Sal Paulo, Brasilia, Kenya and South Africa for dental-medical mission trips as well as donating his time to the well-known 100 yr old Ben Massell Dental clinic in Mid Town Atlanta.
Dr. Sims loves the interaction with patients on a daily basis and enjoys walking into the office every day! After 30+ years in practice, he says “I would do it all again in a heart beat!”
Dr. Sarah Roberts earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of Louisville in 2000. Her undergraduate degree is in Pharmacy and was completed at Purdue University in 1991. Dr. Roberts is an eternal student and has completed much continuing education with a focus towards cosmetic dentistry. She has completed an esthetic continuum at the Nash Institute and is a graduate of the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. Taking these high-level classes has enabled Dr. Roberts to deliver the highest quality of care possible with modern dental techniques and materials.
Dr. Roberts is a member of the American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, Hinman Dental Society, International Association of Comprehensive Aesthetics, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Roberts grew up in Indiana and now lives in Alpharetta with her husband, Philip, and their two daughters, Chloe and Natalie. She enjoys reading, shopping, swimming, and spending time relaxing with her family. Dr. Roberts takes delight in treating patients of all ages. She often volunteers at the local schools to teach dental health to students.
Frank Manfre, BS is a Key Account Manager for Ivoclar Vivadent based in Atlanta. He has over 13 years of experience working with dental laboratories and dentists and has worked as an executive in both profit and non-profit corporations and as a business coach and consultant focused on building high performance teams, leadership development, strategic planning, and business development. He is an advisor to the Georgia Dental Lab Association and a regular contributor to the Journal of Dental Technology, Inside Dental Technology, and Inside Dentistry magazines on the topic of business management.
A native of Florida, Dr. Golsen attended the University of Georgia, has Bachelor of Science degree as well as a DMD from the Medical College School of Dentistry in 1993. Dr Golsen was a clinical instructor at Perimeter College School of dental hygiene and an international trainer for Kreativ air abrasion technology training dentist from all over the world on the technology.
Dr. Golsen has hundreds of Continuing education hours on topics from anterior and posterior cosmetics, implants, periodontal disease, laser dentistry, Botox and fillers and occlusion. She has completed extensive hands on courses with live patients. Pac-live, Hornbrook, Dawson, Spear institute, Esthetic continuum, all taught by the world leaders and the best in their fields.
Dr Golsen has been a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic dentistry since 1995.She has been serving on the board of the Georgia Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry for 6 years. Other membership organizations include the Hinman dental society, Georgia dental association, American dental association, Northern District dental society, AAID, AAFE.
Dr Golsen has been practicing for 22 years in Alpharetta Georgia. Dr Golsen has two sons. One is a junior at Emory University and one a Sophomore in High school.
She is also a 5 year breast cancer survivor!
Chris Sholota has been practicing in North Atlanta since receiving his dental degree from West Virginia University in 1983. Dr. Sholota is always continuing his education by attending many advanced dental institutions by the leading teachers in the world. Brian has presented lectures and hands-on courses to technicians and dentists for more than 20 years.
He is recognized as a leading authority on pressable ceramics and has pioneered many innovative techniques, including Press-to-metal and Press-to-Zirconia.
Brian is a key instructor for Noritake dental ceramics and maintains an active teaching schedule both nationally and internationally. He consults with manufacturers on the development and evolution of new techniques and materials.
